About Your Strategic Partner

Hi, I'm Alex.

In 2016 I took a leap. After almost a decade in corporate law—longer if you count my years as a paralegal before law school—I acknowledged that it wasn't the career I wanted. They say it's crazy to follow your passions when you're carrying a big debt burden, but that's exactly what I did.

In a nod to my photography hobby, I called my first freelancing venture Close Focus Editorial. As a newly minted freelancer, I took high-volume, low-pay gigs to make ends meet. Churning out articles day after day, often for demanding clients with a low tolerance for errors, was the ultimate education in how to write both efficiently and accurately.

When the opportunity came to join Red Mallard, a small content marketing firm, I was grateful to have a home where I could learn, grow, and collaborate with great colleagues. At Red Mallard, I served as chief content strategist, integrator, writer, editor, process developer, interviewer, manager, budget builder, and probably a few other things besides. It was tremendous.

The content marketing landscape has undergone radical change since 2017. The arrival of generative AI is only part of the story. Ownership of the digital landscape has concentrated around the content mills of large, well-heeled companies. Algorithms have evolved fresh barriers to new entrants. Competing for attention is getting harder all the time.

As the tides shifted in 2025, I took a new leap to launch Amplitude Strategic Communications. This time, I'm taking inspiration from my other hobby, electronic music making.

My goal is to be a reliable, insightful creative partner for my clients. The world of communication is changing at an incredible pace. Generative AI makes seductive promises, but is far from perfect. I help clients bridge the gap, providing critical thinking, editorial rigor, and old-fashioned wordsmithing to ensure consistency, clarity, and value.

Find me on LinkedIn and be sure to subscribe to my blog, where I'll post a steady stream of tips and ideas for achieving communications excellence.

I look forward to connecting with you.

Why Amplitude?

In the audio world, amplifiers control the level of a signal. Your stereo's volume knob controls an amplifier. But in sound synthesis, and analog modular synthesis in particular, amplifiers are found not just at the end of the signal chain, but throughout it.

Amplifiers can be used to attenuate a control signal, modify the shape of a sound's waveform, or influence how downstream components interact with the signal passing through them. Experienced synthesists know that the secret sauce of a great sound comes from careful application of amplifiers.

In the noisy, competitive world of communication, your amplification strategy matters more than ever. Everything starts with having a polished message—the raw signal found in articles, videos, podcasts, and other foundational content. By strategically amplifying your message through the optimal channels, you give it the best chance of being heard and understood.
